Mister E is Fashioning the Future
Posted by Timothy on 11/01/2008 at 12:29 AMThe weekend is finally here and I thought I would try my hand at a truly irrelevant post which is nothing more than ramblings about the week. What blog is complete without such a post?
But it’s been a busy but fun week spent mainly in the company of Miss Eco-Boudoir and our Mister E, chaser of brunettes and crasher of doors, which really must be noted down if only to comment on Mister E’s social life...
Monday was the reception for the Fashioning the Future Conference held by the Centre for Sustainable Fashion at the London College of Fashion. I was suppose to meet Mister E beforehand but it appears that a woman held him up and so I sat waiting in a café off of Hanover Square, listening to the latest from Madredeus on the iPods built into the counters, until Jenny showed up followed by him some 45 mins late....
The event itself played host to Lucy Ortiga’s exhibit Survival and a catwalk event presented by Colin McDowell which was showcasing the best of ethical fashion. Afterwards drinks were served and we chatted well into the evening before losing Mister E who dashed off to meet a mystery person while Jenny and I nipped out for a late night dinner.
Tuesday was the conference itself and after only a few hours sleep I found myself rather incoherently trying to piece together a talk on Sustainable Luxury and whether luxury had a place in a sustainable future. The fact that I was following on some great presentations by the like of Anthony Kleanthous from the WWF and presenting in the company of more seasoned speakers like Fiona Desai, Orsola de Castro and Jane Shepherdson did nothing to help. Well practice makes perfect....
Lunch was served – new potatoes and seared tuna which Lucy Siegle pointed out was not MSC certified but it still tasted good....
The event wrapped up with more a discussion panel on the future of fashion before closing with another drinks session which saw Mister E flirting with a German brunette before we lost him to an Italian brunette while Jenny and I once again set off in search of food before calling it a night.
Wednesday was spent with my packaging supplier as we looked at mock-ups of our new body range packaging which I am happy to say is looking very good. It will as far as I know be an industry first as being both fully recyclable and recycled since it will be made from 100% PCR including the lids and printed with organic inks.
The evening saw still more drinks as were sipping champagne at the Luxury Marketing Council event hosted at Dunhill’s new store. Although entry almost proved challenging as it was by rsvp only and it appeared that I was the only one of our group to remember to accept the invitation.... Fortunately we all managed to get in; well Mister E snuck in and then charmed his way out after suavely thanking the woman on the door for her hospitality.
But I must suggest that the woman in the office across the way had better be careful with what she posts in her cubicle... the mounted binoculars on the first floor are sharp enough to read everything on her desk...
As Mister E ran off on another date, Jenny and I decided to wrap the evening up at Claridge’s, relaxing on fresh mint tea. I believe it was Spencer Tracy that once said “When I die, I don’t want to go to heaven. I want to go to Claridge’s.” Well I think he had something there....
The rest of the week was spent dashing in and out of meeting, desperately trying to get some work done and having lunch with a friend. Well the weekend is finally here so hopefully I can finish some presentations I have been working on.... and Mister E will find the brunette he was looking for.
